22nd May 2016:
Stumbled by this place while out hunting for food in Byres Road. Hangry (anger due to hunger), and slightly hungover we spotted the giant sign for meat- the Meathook sign is huge- and headed over. It looked decent enough, sort of like an American BBQ house. We went in- its always awkward to know whether to sit or wait to be seated- and were seated by one of the waitresses.
The menu looked cool but simple, basically burgers, ribs, hotdogs, wings and the usual other stuff. Didn't take long to decide, we had a gameplan- as always. We ordered drinks and our food, I got a blue cheese burger with sweet potato fries and C got chicken wings and fries. We also shared battered prawns- cause why not? Didn't wait that long for the food, and it looked brilliant!
Took a bite out my burger and quickly realised that there was waaaaay too much bun to burger ratio. Ragin'. However, the blue cheese was great, the burger was a wee bit overdone but tasty. I solved the bun to burger ratio catastrophe easily, just took some bun off it. Sorted. The sweet potato fries were nice, could have been a bit more crispy. All in it filled a hole and it was tasty.
C feels that when ordering wings, there should be an option to have 1 bone wings and 2 bone wings (this is not just in this establishment but in all). The wings, even though there was a few 1 bones, were nice. Not the best she has had but also not the worst. The buffalo sauce was BANGIN'. The fries however, were not to her liking, she feels these fries were soggy and not crispy- as fries/chips should be. Overall, taking into consideration that she was hangry as f**k this was a successful meal which she finished happily.
The battered shrimp- leaving the best to last- was phenomenal! The batter, was without a doubt the best in Glasgow (so far). This batter left us speechless, we didn't expect this. At all. The shrimp was big and juicy - to be fair its hard to find decent shrimp/prawns - this was very satisfying for the hungover hanger.
